5 Ways to Stay Healthy While Travelling

I love travelling – visiting different countries and experiencing other cultures is so much fun! However, it can be tricky to maintain a healthy lifestyle when you’re travelling and have less access to fresh, healthy foods.

With the holidays coming up and so many people planning incredible trips away, I’m sharing some of my top tips to help you stay on track while travelling!

1. Prepare!

This is absolutely key! I always carry healthy snacks when I travel, especially when I’m going on a long flight! Some of my favourites are protein balls, nuts and dates. If you have healthy snacks on hand, you’re less likely to be sucked in to the sugary, salty options all around you whenever you get hungry!

2. Hydrate!

I make sure to have a water bottle with me at all times when I travel, and fill it up as much as I can. Otherwise, I forget to drink enough when I’m constantly on the go. If we become dehydrated we can often make poor food decisions, since we often misinterpret thirst as hunger. Not to mention staying hydrated boosts your metabolism, and flushes toxins from your body (from all those sneaky wines!).

3. Supplement wisely.

Supplements are amazing for helping to boost your immunity and energy when you travel. If you’re like me, I find I often get sick on long flights, or suffer from low energy levels when I’m constantly out and about. For me, my AM/PM formula has made a world of difference – I always take it before I travel, and throughout my trip. The AM vitamin helps your body cope with stress and boosts your energy and immunity – perfect for travelling! Then the PM improves sleep, meaning you’ll be much more energised the next day, and can make the most of your holiday!

4. Take time out!

Holidays are for resting and relaxing, as well as packing in as many sights and activities as you can. Try to fit in some deep breathing exercises or meditation each day. This will balance your nervous system and let your body repair. This will also help prevent exhaustion, and mean you’ll feel rested when you get home rather than burnt out and exhausted!

5. Incidental exercise!

While you may not have time to hit the gym, walking everywhere when you travel is a great way to get in your daily burn, and get those endorphins pumping. Not to mention it also encourages you to see more of the place you’re visiting!

Most importantly, I want you to remember you can indulge and enjoy yourself while you’re on holidays! It’s all about balance – this is the key to the healthy life! So try the Portuguese tart, have an extra slice of pizza, or enjoy an Aperol spritz! Just do so mindfully, and in moderation!

Absolutely, aim to make healthy choices, but don’t be afraid to treat yourself along the way too! Really experience what the amazing cultures around the world have to offer!
