My two-day escape at Gaia
As a clinical nutritionist, I like to walk my talk. This means maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, practising stress reduction and regularly taking time for rest and replenishment. As JSHealth has grown, I’ve been dealing with increasing pressure. Between launching the JSHealth App and our second range of vitamins, to say that I’ve been overwhelmed would be an understatement. I could see myself heading into burn out – and fast. So, I decided to head to my favourite health retreat, Gaia Health Retreat, to calm my body and give my mind a much-needed break.
I arrived at the nourishing spot nestled in the hinterland of Byron Bay. The grounds itself are strong enough to heal. There’s energy at Gaia that’s hard to explain; it has to be felt to be believed. As soon as I arrived, I felt my entire nervous system drop. I felt my thoughts slow down. I totally calmed down.
Between the lush, natural surroundings, the abundant food and the daily yoga practice I had some time to reflect. During this time, I thought about my health priorities and my everyday actions.
While I absolutely love being in the kitchen and creating new recipes, I sometimes love taking a few days off cooking and enjoying beautiful produce prepared by others. This is exactly what I did at Gaia. I only need three words to describe the food: fresh, colourful and tasty. Their food philosophy centers around abundance and taste, so you’re sure to never go hungry. It’s also organic and seasonal. Vegetables and herbs are grown in the veggie patch on the back of the property. It’s simply divine.
Each morning for breakfast there was a choice of porridge, granola, fresh fruit and a warm, cooked option. The dinners are wholesome, nourishing and nutritious. One of my favourite dishes was oven-roasted chicken with cauliflower mash and almond. To my surprise, there was even healthy dessert on the menu. Hello, coconut mousse with crumble and berries.
I’m not usually one to splash out on spa treatments, but I simply couldn’t resist. I booked in for a session at the award-winning spa and I now understand why it’s so renowned. The facials and massages are out of this world. I highly recommend the facial by Nicola and the massage by Tim.
I have to say that this health retreat is one for the bucket list. For those struggling with stress, fatigue or if you’re simply in need of a break, a retreat can help you get back on track. It’s a very worthwhile investment in your health.
