The AM Routine I Swear By To Keep My Stress Levels Down

My morning routine truly is so important to me and is something I have always encouraged my clients to implement.

How you start your morning sets the tone for the day. It truly has a ripple effect on your health habits for the rest of the day and in my experience, helps reduce stress levels and anxious thoughts. Everyone’s morning routine will look different and that’s ok! It’s all about doing what works for you personally. I try to set aside 30 minutes where possible but some days I can only squeeze in 10 but trust me, it all makes a difference.

To provide you with a little bit of inspiration for what a stress-reducing morning looks like today I’m sharing my personal routine:

Morning gratitude practise: I wake up at 630/7 and I immediately begin a gratitude practice. As my body awakes, I simply focus my mind on all the things I’m deeply grateful for. I do the JSHealth Body Love Scan and I also visualise some of my dreams and goals. I’m a big believer in the power of manifestation.

Avoid social media: The most important thing I do is NOT check social media until I officially start work for the day. Waking up and hitting yourself with your Instagram feed or emails only increases cortisol and anxiety. It is not healthy to start your day on this note. This rule has changed my life. I actually keep my phone in another area of the house and delete social apps the night before until I start my day.

Gentle movement: When I have time I do 20-30 mins of movement – yoga, a walk or HIIT. I tune into my body and listen to what it feels like. Some days I just rest or sit outside in the morning sunshine. Lately I have been testing out some of the workouts that are coming soon to the JSHealth app– 20 minute workouts that can be done anywhere. I can’t wait for you to try them all, stay tuned! After this I then try squeeze in 10 mins of belly breathing and mindful meditation.

A nourishing breakfast: I then make a JS breakfast that must include all the important nutrients to keep me full and energised. I use the recipes from the JSHealth Meal Plan found in the JSHealth App.
