I chose the 3 Day Cleanse, which seemed like a reasonable amount of time.
It’s a daunting prospect to change ALL your nutrition habits in one go, but anyone can do anything for three days so I figured I’d give it a shot and report back to you.
The drinks are ready-made and require no preparation so you can transport them with you wherever you go. Easy!
What it is…how to do it… Why Jess, Why?
Why, you ask? I have been meaning to do a detox for ages and this was the perfect opportunity! No – not to lose weight, but because I know how important it is for us to give our bodies a bit of a break from the hard work we put it through every day. Also, it’s becoming more and more important that we occasionally get a boost to help us flush out the inevitable toxic build up in our systems. Not because our bodies don’t detoxify us naturally, but because we live in a modern world where unexpected toxins are piled on from all directions. Our ancestors never had to process a world where plastics infused meat, or where pesticides and hormones suffused every part of the food chain.
So I was determined to give a detox a go, and this is how it went!
Feeling excited and motivated about the 3 days ahead! I take a good look at myself, so I can have a baseline to look back on three days from now. I’m in decent nick. My skin is looking okay, slightly dry.
[7am] I wake up. Swallow 1 liver tonic tablet. According to the write-up, this mixture of herbs and minerals will accelerate the elimination of waste from my body. I then go straight to the kettle to make my warm water with lemon followed by a 20 minute transcendental meditation.
Next I go for a 30 minute jog to start my week on a energized note. A good beginning!
[9am] Breakfast time! The first bottle that presents itself to me is the ‘Cleanse and Renew Smoothie’: a mixture of spinach, avocado, raw vanilla, banana and chia seeds. I have to admit, it was slightly bland but had a delish texture and was very filling. I followed it up with ‘dessert’ – a chai tea with raw almond milk and stevia.
[11am] Tea time: Took 4 chlorella tablets! –
What is chlorella? It is a water grown algae (natural food source) that is full of chlorophyll. Chlorella cleanses the body by binding to toxins and carrying them out of our systems. It is a potent antioxidant that is high in protein (60% complete protein in free amino acid form), rich in vitamin C+E, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids and so many other magical vitamins and minerals. It cleanses the blood and optimizes the oxygen in our blood. Great for alkalizing the body, reducing acidity and eliminating heavy metals. Impressive profile huh!?
Now sipping on my lemon, cayenne pepper, stevia water whilst blogging away! Refreshing!
[12pm] Epsom salt bath here I come! ( Epsom salts are high in magnesium. Great for detoxifying and muscle relaxation)
[1pm] Lunch time!! Spinach, cucumber, lettuce, celery and mint juice. You can just feel how good it is for you (but boy it tastes bad! yikes! It BETTER be as good for me as it feels!)
[3pm] Now for another 4 chlorella tablets in my belly!
[4pm] Tea time: Sipping on a cucumber, carrot and ginger juice. I like this one!! And now that I have the taste of ginger on my tongue I want more! Time for a chai tea with almond milk…mmm!
Despite not having eaten anything solid today, I feel strangely ok and actually quite energized.
[7pm] Dinner time: Slotted in a transcendental meditation sesh! Looks like my schedule has a lot more time in it now that I’m not worrying about food prep!
Dinner is a spinach, cucumber, parsley and mint drink. Maybe not QUITE my thing. Or maybe it’s an acquired taste. I have to admit, the detox slump is setting it. I’m starting to feel pretty tired and I kind of just want to chew something!
[5pm] Epsom salt bath and my Patrick Holford book ‘Secrets of Healthy Aging.” Excited for sleep. My cells are ready for the rest and rejuvenation.
9am: Can’t believe I slept in till 9am! (very late for me)! My body needed it, I guess.
I wake up feeling kind of empty/hungry, but I know there’s two more whole days to go!
[9:30am] Quick shower and then 20 minutes of my transcendental meditation. I feel much better after the meditation and can face the rest of the day. Sticking to the positives, I just had a quick look in the mirror and I must say that my skin is glowing and super clear!
[10am] Pre breaky: Lemon water + liver tonic tablet.
Breakfast! Not sure if I am excited or not.
Cleanse and Renew smoothie: spinach, avocado, raw vanilla, banana, and chia seeds. I decided to blend it up with ice. I need texture!
[11am] Time for some acupuncture with my magical Chinese medicine man to balance my energy flow! Excited.
[12:30pm] 6 chlorella tablets. Toxins get outta me!
+ sipping on lemon, cayenne pepper, stevia water + chai tea.
[1:30pm] Lunch time: OK, I’m hungry! I want a crunchy salad, but instead I’ll have a liquid salad. Spinach, cucumber, lettuce, celery and mint juice. I added a scoop of natural whey to it (shhh).
[3pm] 6 chlorella tabs with my carrot and mint juice and meditation time.
[7pm] Dinner: I am weak. “How do people do these cleanses for more than 3 days?” I asked my boyfriend, trying not to gnaw on his arm. “Madness.”
[8pm] Kardashian episode and chai tea with almond milk and cinnamon.
[9pm] Epsom salt bath and lights out at 10pm!
[7am] Opened eyes. Mirror check motivated me yesterday, so I will do it again! Oh yeah, skin so clear and glowy. I take 2 liver tonic tablets and lemon water before my meditation.
[9am] Off to Jivamukti Yoga in Newtown. They have a vegan café next door the yoga that does the most phenom green juices I will be having that instead of the designated Urban Remedy breakfast one. (Gotta do what you gotta do.)
Yoga was so invigorating, and I didn’t feel a lack of energy at all! Beautiful practice with beautiful people.
[11am] Off to meet my Indian Gurus @Ayurvedic Wellness centre for an Abhyanga treatment. Recommended for soothing the nervous system and stimulating the immune system.
Benefits of Abhyanga:
- Good for circulation
- Good for muscle tone
- Opens up the creative mind
- Relaxes body and mind
- Flushes toxins
- Helps prevent circulation in-balances
- Promotes youthfulness and vitality
- Rejuvenates the skin
Now that was blissful. I’m taking this three days to do a wholistic health kick, as I want to give these juices every chance I can! (I’m relaxed..ultra relaxed, but oh gosh I’m hungry!)
[12pm] Quick shop at Dr. Earth for some B complex vitamins and chai tea. Can I chew the B vitamin tablet? I’m going mad!
[1pm] I blended up my green smoothie for lunch with ice and almond milk.
[3pm] Feeling good. I am amazingly energized. I down the carrot, cucumber and mint juice + 6 chlorella.
[4pm] Time for a gravity colonic. A bit daunting! Is there even anything left inside of me? What could possibly be excreted out?!
I ask my darling friend Leanne who does my colonics (Release clinic) who has been doing it for over 20 years and she says she is still stunned by the amount of toxic build up and residue we all have clogged up in our colons (no matter how healthy we think we are). Certainly, I feel much more detoxed afterwards!
I’m secretly so excited this day is coming to an end because that means I’ll be able to eat tomorrow. Also, it will mean I have achieved 3 days of cleansing!!
[7pm] Dinner: Spinach, cucumber, lettuce, celery and mint juice. I have kind of had enough now. I wasn’t too keen on this juice the first day, and I am even less keen on it the third time around.
I feel good. My skin is glowing, and I have lots of energy. My body is clean and happy! Alkaline test: Perfect pH!
I recommend it to those wanting a quick cleanse. Ideally you’d start it on the weekend, so you can support the food cleanse with some other healthful activities. It’s not for the faint hearted, but like I said at the beginning – you can do anything for three days!
I think I will happily do a cleanse every 3 months! Thanks, Urban Remedy.
