One of our favourite foodies, Ellie Laffner, is back on the blog today, featuring some of her favourite Superfood Salads in Melbourne. Whether they’re jazzed up with dukkah-poached eggs, activated nuts or a goji berry or two- these salads look satisfying, nourishing and super tasty! You can find Ellie daily on Instagram: @healthycleantimes and on Snapchat at ellie.laffner. Read on to find her top picks for cafés catering to all your superfood needs…

If ‘breakfast salads’ for lunch are wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

As a health conscious café hopper, I was ecstatic at the rise of ‘super food salads’ in Melbourne. Just about every cool café has a version of their own. They are the type of salad that leave you feeling satisfied and let’s be real: superhuman. Generally these Superfood Salads consist of a source of protein (hello poached eggs), green vegetables (what’s up kale?), a gluten-free grain (queen quinoa) and a special Melbourne touch (I’m looking at you goji berries.)

So without further ado, here are my top 5 Superfood Salads in Melbourne.

Glovers Station

Located: 258 Glen Eira Rd, Elsternwick.

Poached ocean trout, quinoa, kale, goji berry & broccoli salad, avocado puree, pickled fennel and poached egg.

What used to be a service station in the 1930’s has been transformed into a café with organic produce and a delicious menu to boot! This superfood salad is the perfect choice when I am craving something light, nourishing and full of protein. I also love that it’s gluten-free and dairy-free. Glovers Station gets bonus points for its bright, spacious interior – it makes for the perfect Instagram shot!

Tall Timber

Located: 60 Commercial Road, Prahran, Melbourne

Kale, asparagus, green beans with poached eggs, almonds, feta and dukkah on quinoa loaf.

The hype around Tall Timber is definitely justified. If you are looking for your daily dose of greens, then look no further then Tall Timber. It’s loaded with perfectly cooked kale, crunchy almonds and salty feta, making it a go-to meal for even those ‘anti-health foodies.’ Be warned: the cue can be long, but Tall Timber is worth the wait!

Las Chicas

Located: 203 Carlisle Street, St Kilda East

Kale, red sorrel, broccoli, black turtle beans, pomegranate, activated nuts with dukkah-poached eggs.

I’ve been a local at Las Chicas for quite some time now. Their latest renovation gives it a cozy, inviting feel, complementing their very inviting menu! I consistently order the ‘Brekky Greens’ for its generous serving and simplistic style. Unlike many other cafes, they activate their nuts. This makes it easier for our bodies to digest and absorb the nutrients found in them. It also adds the perfect crunch!  I recommend adding a side of avocado for some creaminess! So satiating.

The Beatt Cafe

Located: 24 Beatty Avenue, Armadale

Salad of Kale, organic quinoa, organic peas, mint, coriander, chilli, broccoli, avocado, mixed organic nuts and 2 biodynamic poached eggs.

With a focus on health, The Beatt Café is my go-to for a killer takeaway salad. I love the addition of chilli in this dish. It’s the perfect metabolism booster and flavour enhancer! The Beatt Café has consistently speedy service and fresh ingredients, making it one of my faves!

Walk Don’t Run

Located: 17 Morey Street, Armadale.

Superfood breakfast w/ kale, broccolini, spiced pumpkin, barley, green chilli + pepitas, alongside house-made life loaf with light cottage cheese + poached eggs.

This café does not have your typical ‘scrambled eggs on toast’ kind of menu. Walk Don’t Run is a hidden gem! Their focus is on mindful eating, meaning everything is 100% organic, locally sourced and prepared to perfection! Their super food breakfast has it all, but the real MVP is their homemade Life Loaf. So satisfying and so nutritious!

Superfood Salads have taken Melbourne by storm and are guaranteed to nourish your body, taste buds and Instagram feeds.
