Meet Guy Turland, a Bondi local, surfer and one of our favourite wholefoods chefs! He’s just recently published his own cookbook, Balance, he stars in a hit Youtube cooking show, Bondi Harvest, and has two cafes, one in L.A that I just visited! We wondered what a day looks like on such a busy guys plate! (We’ve got to say, it looks super delicious!)

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself – who you are and what you do.

I’m an adventurer, trained chef and surfer who believes health is all about balance.

I own and run a business called Bondi Harvest; Bondi Harvest started 4 years ago as a YouTube channel. The basis of this side project was to share good vibes and healthy wholefood recipe videos straight out of Bondi Beach.

What started as a side project has turned into a full time job and an international brand. We have a café in Los Angeles, have just published our second cookbook “Bondi Harvest Balance” and in January 2018 we’ll be airing our first Bondi Harvest TV show on SBS Food network.

Our goal is simply to un-intimidated and simplify health and cooking at home to empower people to find there own healthy balance, No Fads or No Diets. Food and health is a individual journey and a celebration, so believe in balance and flexibility.

2.What was the ‘uh ha’ moment that inspired you to get in to food or health and wellbeing?

I don’t think there was one moment that sent me down the path of healthy food and wellbeing it’s been a way of life for as long as I can remember.

When I was growing up my mum was an Olympic marathon runner so health and wellbeing wasn’t really a thing it was all we knew.

My passion for cooking started with my first job; washing dishes at a local café.. and 17 years later and having worked in some of Sydney’s best restaurant it’s still going strong!

So I guess you could say the uh ha moment has been gradual.

3. Talk us through a typical day in your life…

I wake up with the sunrise and make a real effort not to touch my phone or computer until I grab coffee and make a light breakfast.

After a slow technology free breakfast and Coffee I dive into work emails and jump on a phone to the café in LA to check up on the team and change the menu.

If we’re not filming our cooking videos then ill be writing, researching and testing new recipes for upcoming projects or working on our website (www.bondiharvest.com).

After working all morning I treat myself to surf, run or walk to reset the mind and body. Lunch usually consist of a seasonal salad, or leftovers snacks from the mornings recipe testing.

I clock off around 5-6pm to get dinner ready, cooking at home is my zen time so again off with the phone, no cameras, no stress and no customers.

I’ve always got something new I want to try or taste so dinners are full of new creation. These usually include in season veggies, fermented veg and all different kinds of spices- I try to only eat meat once or twice a week.

If I’m feeling like a treat I’ll whip up a carrot cake or some of my vegan ice cream.

8. Any last words of advice or tips for those starting out on their health journey?

Listen to what you, your body and mind needs not what everyone’s telling you, Keep it simple, and keep it balanced- everyone’s journey is different.
