My Skin Regime: A Guide to Glowing Skin

I’m often asked about my beauty routine – specifically, what I like to use that makes me look and feel refreshed. With so many choices out there, choosing the very best can be overwhelming. A non-negotiable for the products I use? They must be as natural as possible. And I do not endorse anything I do not 100% believe in and use myself.

Why Choose Natural?

Just like what we put in to our bodies is important, what we put on our skin is just as vital to our health. You should feed your skin with natural, whole ingredients that your body recognises – simple, real and formulated with minimal processing to maximise ingredient integrity and skin benefits.

Whether you are starting your day or ending it, or you just want to get away, why not take a moment to thank your skin?

It is important to understand how the skin functions so we can support it and give it the nutrition it needs to function well and maintain balance – and to do it naturally.

Our skin is the barrier between our body and the outside world and just like the rest of our body, our skin needs nourishment. Whole ingredients like botanical oils, butters, extracts and waxes deliver complete nutrients from the plant to your skin.

Up to 60% of what we put on the skin may be absorbed in to the skin. So what are you really feeding your skin, junk food or real food?

Why Burt’s Bees?

IH group

Burt’s Bees is pioneering a new brand of natural that’s still all about the power of nature. They strive for 100% natural formulations to provide natural health and beauty care products that are effective and environmentally sustainable – nourishing the body and replenishing nature. They exist to connect people to the wisdom, power, and beauty of nature.

Your well-being is affected every single day by the personal care products you use. Burt’s Bees goal is to create and educate people on truly natural products that have a positive effect on both you and the world you live in for the good of your well-being, for the good of the environment and for The Greater Good™. Their mission to make people’s lives better every day — naturally.

Burt’s Bees believes in transparency, you know exactly how natural each product is just by looking at the natural bar which shows the exact percentage of natural ingredients. The products are on average 99% natural, with over 70% of them 100% natural and all formulas over 95%. Their goal is to strive for all products being 100% natural by 2020.

I know what you’re thinking, 99% natural? Why not 100%? The preservation of natural formulas is challenging and Burt’s Bees has found that natural preservatives simply aren’t effective in some formulas. To ensure safety, efficacy and aesthetic of their formulas the synthetic preservative phenoxyethanol is used at 1%. It is a non-paraben, non-formaldehyde releasing preservative which is used broadly in natural care products.

Dryness, fine lines and wrinkles are the top skin concerns for women and Australia’s harsh climate means we have the highest rate of skin conditions in the world. The Intense Hydration Range consists of five products clinically proven to provide intense hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in just 3 weeks – naturally. The range uses Clary Sage, a remarkable botanical that thrives in its harsh environment because of its ability to retain moisture. It is the inspiration behind Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration, our natural ode to soft, supple, revitalized skin and our best natural anti-aging solution. The cream cleanser leaves your skin incredibly soft while the day lotion, eye cream and night cream help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Add the treatment mask for an immediate dose of hydration to give your skin a revitalized look.

Start the Day with Natural Goodness

1. Cleanse
To rinse off residue, dirt and oil from the night before I use Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Cream cleanser. It is cream based, non-foaming and soap free meaning it doesn’t dry out the skin.

2. Treat with a Mask
Once a week, or if I have an important event on that day I use the Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Treatment Mask. It leaves my skin hydrated and looking soft, and plump.

3. Protect with Sunscreen
Sunscreen is important to wear every single day – rain or shine to prevent fine lines and sun damage

4. Hydrate and Hydrate
After the sunscreen has set in to the skin I use Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Day Lotion. It’s fast absorbing formula leaves my skin soft, supple and looking healthy.

End the Day and Take Time to Care for Skin

1. Cleanse
I use my Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Cleanser to remove any traces of makeup, dirt and oil from the day

2. Exfoliate
A couple of times a week I mix Burt’s Bees Peach and Willowbark Scrub with my cleanser for a deeper cleanse.  This gives me a gentle exfoliation whilst reaping the hydration benefits from my normal cleanser.

2. It’s All in the Eyes
It’s never too early to fight the signs of aging, I use Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Eye Cream which helps to revitalise the delicate skin around the eyes.

3. Overnight Beauty
Night creams are great for hydrating and revitalising the skin while we sleep. I apply Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration night cream – it’s fast absorbing, rich and has been shown to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in 6 weeks.

I’m so glad I read this! I bought Burt’s Bees Lip Balm the other day but wasn’t 100% sure about all their other products! So thank you 🙂 Just went in and stocked up!

  • Hi Jess, I would love to know what you use on your lips or for you to do a post on just lip care, I have been googling for over a year now and cant find a natural product that doesn’t irritate me!(I hate petroleum jelly but its the only thing that doesn’t make my lips flare up and it dry s them out so I have to keep using it) I have allergies and eczema so Burts Bees is out for me unfortunatly because it contains Lanolin which is a big no no for people with eczema.

Hi Rachael, I find rubbing Cacao Butter on my lips works so nicely. I absolutely hate having dry lips and seem to need to reapply lip balm all the time but since I’ve starting using Cacao butter I reapply less than half as much as I used to. Plus, it taste delicious and since you’re going to end up ingesting a bit anyway with it on your lips it gives me peace of mind to know it’s a food product. Food for the skin! 🙂

  • I have recently switched 🙂
