Your environment is one of the greatest factors that will determine the health of your hormones and your overall health status. Sadly we live in an environment that is loaded with synthetic chemicals such as pesticides, plastic compounds ( bisphenol- A- found in the plastic) and many industrial compounds.
Environmental toxins can cause hormonal havoc. The synthetic chemicals mentioned above can actually act like hormones, or interfere with normal action of the body’s hormones. Some can actually mimic the role of oestrogenic hormones in our bodies that cause ‘oestrogen dominance’ that will lead to an array of unwanted body complications such as hormone related cancers and infertility.
There are simple changes that we can make to our diet and lifestyle to reduce our environmental load/toxins and will help us achieve OPTIMAL HEALTH.
- Invest in a good quality, plumbed-in water filter.
- Use a stainless steel water bottle rather than a plastic bottle.
- Buy organic where possible. When not possible, wash or peel fruit/veg always to remove pesticides.
- Swap from deep-frying to steaming or grilling.
- Buy drinks in glass rather than plastic containers or cartons, and recycle them.
- Rearrange your daily schedule to minimise time spent in traffic.
- Drink alcohol infrequently.
- Avoid medical drugs whenever possible unless they are the only option for treating the illness. Try to source the underlying cause instead with the help of a nutritionist or holistic doctor.
- Switch to natural detergents for the household cleaning.
- Reduce your intake of meat, dairy and fatty foods- when eating meat- choose organic grass fed meat always.
- Do no heat foods in plastic.
- Minmise exposure of food in plastic- use paper bags to put your cut up fruit and veggies in.
- Avoid canned fruit and veg.
- Use an ‘aluminium free’- natural deodorant.
- Cut back on your usage of perfume- when you do spray, spray on your clothes rather than on the skin.
- Avoid fake tanning.
