JSHealth Avoca Guide: My Divine Weekend Escape

A few weekends’ ago Dean and I decided we need a little break from city life and last minute booked an escape to Avoca Beach – just 1 hour away from Sydney.

It was such a lovely break. I left my phone and computer at home and forced myself to SLOW down – something very hard for me to do, but so necessary.

If you are based in Sydney, I highly recommend this as a divine weekend escape.

We found the most beautiful spots – to eat, drink, sleep and relax – I had to share.

Where to stay:

Avoca Valley Bed & Breakfast

This is the most gorgeous little BnB that we just love.

You feel so at home – it is such a cosy and nourishing space.

The rooms are light, bright and warm. The bed linen is plush and the view of the valley is totally stunning. They also make a delicious wholesome breakfast – loved the poached eggs and bircher muesli.

Where to eat: we found some seriously healthy meals!

Bombini – unbelievable Italian food! We went to Bombini the first night (just around the corner from the BnB).

This is authentic Italian. They also have a famous pizza bar but we of course chose to dine in the restaurant for some healthier options.

Order: Burrata soft cow’s milk cheese with radicchio, grilled Romanesco cauliflower, walnut & caper salsa. Heaven!

The homemade bread with olive oil is to die for – totally worth the indulgence.

I enjoyed the Italian Rosé which was dry and delicious.

Dean and I shared the fish and steak.  Both delicious. The brussels sprouts side are so a must.

We shared their signature dessert Bombini “raspberry & cream’ – Oh wow. Treat yourself!

The second night we went to L’isle de France, a French Restaurant.

Wow… I was blown away.

We thought it would be a little too fancy for our liking with tiny portions. We were so wrong. The food tasted absolutely delicious and homemade. The portions were huge – especially for the price point.

I loved the dim lights, fire place and romantic ambiance. It felt like we were in France for the night. We loved the prawns to start. Dean enjoyed their signature beef cheek for his mains and I had the Barramundi with greens – I felt so good after this meal. Some great healthy options.

Their wine menu is incredibly extensive. I love drinking French Rosé as a treat as I get no hangover/headache the next day.

Best breakfast/Brunch: Like Minds

This is where the vibe is at. It seems like this the trendy local hang out.

JSHealth Digital Content Editor, Sarah, told me about this one – I adored it! This was one of the best brunches I’ve had in a long time. I had the homemade fritters with a side of their pumpkin bread – homemade gluten free bread – it was amazing. Their coffee and turmeric lattes are delicious too.

Next time I want to try their homemade bircher muesli bowl, yum.

Best coffee: Becker & Co

Creamy and strong – just how I like it. I always order a piccolo! Grab a takeaway coffee and avo smash and walk up to the beach to enjoy – just a few minutes away.

What to do:

Movies – we saw two movies at Erin Fair shopping mall.

Relax in the BnB and watch movies – they have an amazing selection.

Walk on Avoca beach and then take the walk on the coastline on the right hand side of the beach – you will see the path. It was so picturesque.

Book in a massage at the BnB or Google some other local options.

Let me know if you head to Avoca and love some of these spots.

It is a gem of a place!
